Room 10 Term 4 - from the Syndicate Newsletter

ROOM 10 TERM 4 2014
Room 10 started Term 4 with lots of tests, thankfully most students made progress. Earlier in the term Mrs Puke selected some students to be in the Ki o Rahi team for the Raukawa Nga Taonga Takaro intermediate interschool’s tournament .The students that were selected from room 10 were Cora Hulme, Joyzius Tunnapopo, Bailie Lyttle, Brooklyn Manu, Kani Manu, Jeremy Sneddon and JWA.
In early November it was that time of the year where everyone participates in the school athletics. We had long jump, high jump, sprints, shot put and discus. Kani being Room 10’s athletic star nearly became junior boy champion. The best of the best in athletics made it to Waikato Intermediate Athletics.
For the past few Monday and Tuesday’s we have had a syndicate sports competition in our Tech Arts groups, we played the Tech Arts groups from the other classes. Room 10B won and 10A got 2nd equal.      We also had syndicate relays and of course Room 10 won the Syndicate Relay Cup. Room 10 has won it every year except 2010 which room 12 won and if you ask me we are pretty darn goodJ. Sadly we haven’t won another interclass sport for a while.
Finally the event everybody had been waiting for….THE MARAE TRIP #shamazing. We started the Marae trip with a Powhiri which is the Maori way to welcome you on to the Marae, then we sang our little hearts out to Hareruia. After the powhiri we had the mean as kai; yum, yum, yummy thanks to all the great parents. We learnt about some of the carvings.  The next day we went up to TA and went to a museum we learnt how to weave using flax.  it was very interesting after that we went down to a park which you can see on our blog. Once we had finished our lunch at the shamazing park, we went back to the museum and learnt about the Waikato Wars. We then travelled back to the marae and played till it was time to have dinner then it was off the movie to watch Mockingjay.
To finish off the term we had a fun day with lots of relays, a movie and  a Christmas activity in first place were the ‘jerry cherry’s’ then the Nevada’s then the Mc sausages.
Last Tuesday we had our school social and Cora got best Yr7 dancer and Nevada got best dressed along with JWA .
Now we are all anxiously awaiting for prize giving - let’s hope Room Ten gets lots of award .

Seen and heard by your faithful correspondents Kiana and Cora

Room 10's Marae Stay 2014

Late in November every year Room 10 stay at Papa O Te Aroha Marae for 2 nights.

This year they were  welcomed on with a powhiri, learnt marae kawa, and got some expert tuition in stick games - Titi torea, from Whaea Awhina. They heard the stories of many of the many beautiful whakairo ( carvings) and saw other examples of culture and heritage - the tukuku panels and kowhaiwhai.

After very little sleep they headed off to Te Awamutu Museum to experience the Making Muka programme and learn about the Waikato Wars. Went to the latest Hunger Games movie, walked back to the marae in the dark and played spotlight. Another late night and some work done in the morning ( yes Brooklyn you paid $65 to write a diary!) then a swim in the Town Pools  and home.

A full on two days but a great chance for the class to spend time together in different learning environments. It was fun...
